The bad surpise is apparently the following package have *indirect* 
buildlink3 dependencies on fonts/Xft2 while depending directly on 
libXft/buildlink3.mk:
> devel/pango/options.mk:BUILDLINK_API_DEPENDS.Xft2+=     Xft2>=2.1.7nb3
> x11/gtk2/options.mk:BUILDLINK_API_DEPENDS.Xft2+=        Xft2>=2.1.2nb2
> x11/gtk3/options.mk:BUILDLINK_API_DEPENDS.Xft2+=        Xft2>=2.1.2nb2
> graphics/libgdiplus/Makefile:BUILDLINK_API_DEPENDS.Xft2+=       Xft2>=2.1.2
> x11/gnome-control-center/Makefile:BUILDLINK_API_DEPENDS.Xft2+=  Xft2>=2.1.2

In order to remove fonts/Xft2 then 'Xft2' will probably need be changed 
to 'libXft' in these cases as well.
