Thanks. I've tried it by reverting my change to orcus and building it.

The "Creating ..." line is not printed, and the build fails with:

checking for ZLIB... no
configure: error: Package requirements (zlib) were not met:

No package 'zlib' found

Consider adjusting the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable if you
installed software in a non-standard prefix.


A new symlink is created in work/.buildlink:

# ls -l work/.buildlink/lib/pkgconfig/zlib.pc
lrwxr-xr-x  1 root  builder  27 Dec 10 17:37 
work/.buildlink/lib/pkgconfig/zlib.pc -> /usr/lib/pkgconfig/zlib.pc

But the target of the symlink does not exist.
