Just to let you know, I also had pkgsrc-wip wip/evince.

You may want to consider using some ideas from it (COMMENT, DESCR, and 
DVI support).

Can you be the maintainer for this?

Hopefully, we can get more packages using poppler ... especially with 
security issues in xpdf it doesn't make sense to have several derivatives 
of that xpdf code in use.
