There are different ways of measuring 'light' though. Is gtk1 really
so 'light' if I need to add it for one app, when several others are
already using (and sharing) gtk2?

In any case, for the -bin packages it's a little different: they are
produced by someone else, while ever those people think there's enough
justification to continue producing both gtk1 and gtk2 versions (for
whatever reason), we might as well continue to republish the choice.
We should, of course, offer sensible defaults - and i suspect that
default should probably be gtk2 wherever available.
