As far as I can tell, icecast2 does not do:

- on-demand relaying (it does "always-on" relaying, which means upstream
  bandwidth gets consumed even with no clients connected to the relayed
  stream)

- authentication

Some people might still want one or the other...

Personally I just stopped using these two features, and I'm hoping they
will reappear in icecast2 one day.
