I did do this while testing the PR, but was put off by pkglint:

  OK: checking Makefile.
  FATAL: PKGNAME must come with version number, like "foobaa-1.0".
  OK: checking ./PLIST.
  OK: checking ./DESCR.
  OK: checking patches/patch-aa.
  OK: checking distinfo.
  1 fatal errors and 0 warnings found.

If this is the usual way then pkglint should probably be fixed (my
perl isn't great so I've not looked into it a great deal).
