ltmain.sh is generated from ltmain.in _iff_ ltmain.in has a newer
timestamp than ltmain.sh. This may or may not happen during patching,
which is why Thomas observed the problem (ltmain.sh being regenerated
and thus loosing all patching) and I didn't. Sorry for the problems -
it turns out that patch-ap is in fact not needed at all, since patch-ab
already does what needs to be done.
