According to Joerg Schilly, it is a hacked up ksh8x. You don't want to
have the source for it :-) When I spoke with him about this issue in
Chemnitz, he suggested the XPG4 shell...

/usr/xpg4/bin/sh and /bin/ksh are almost equal on my system (Solaris 8), and the bug also occurs with the XPG4 shell.
