Well, that was caused by some changes I did recently to check-files.
I fixed that by adding some magic to it WRT MAKE_DIRS.

Even though, it's not yet perfect, so I've disabled CHECK_FILES for
now, until it gets more testing.  Otherwise we may get more problems
in bulk builds than expected.
