Thanks!  This did eliminate the error, but the keyboard still does not
work at the installation menu.  That might be related to some hardware in
the Dell that the netbsd kernel is recognizing as a keyboard controller --
i saw something in the kernel's messages during boot that suggests it sees
a keyboard or keyboard controller. If i can find the appropriate cables,
i'll try and get a laptop connect to the console so i can email the kernel
message from the boot.
