OK.

So... I set files to 20480 (should be safe... my MP3 lib has 16000 
entries - took me ages to digitize all my bloody CDs)... and procs to 
2048...

Ran sysctl start and message reflects the changes.

Restarting smbd with log level set to 10 instead of 3 and max log file 
size 1024 k (so that it fits)... and restarting the smbd daemon... and 
copying my whole library in one shot. Will get back to you if it stops 
again. :)
