Another option might be WebDAV. WinXP has native (but quirky) support
for "mounting" WebDAV shares, accessed from "my network places"->"add a
nwtrowk place"->"http://whatever". WebDAV is an addition to HTTP (so
it's firewall friendly), and apache (among others) has an appropriate
module.
