I have used NetBSD 2.0.2 with several NVDIA chisets like Geforce Mx400
64 and Rive TNT M64 (yes yes I know it's very old Nvidia card :)
everything  works fine
XFree86 4.4 works fine too,
for S3 i thing it is also supported but i am not sure;)
