What is? I don't get what you're saying given the context.

This seems like a big problem. Perhaps the lower-res pixmaps really
aren't??

Anyway, the point I'm trying to make is that the default xdm is ugly and
doesn't complement the look of our favourite OS's logo.

We can make xdm look good and clean (when it works). When xdm doesn't
work, it needs to be fixed for other reasons. But it should be such that
when those issues are fixed, it will look good.

Naturally this is a problem. Is there a way to redirect the the messages
to somewhere like /var/log or somewhere like that for these platforms?

When I think of the purpose of xdm, it's for users to log in. Having the
xconsole there seems like more of a debugging tool. And there's always
the ability to turn that on if debugging is needed. In my opinion it
should be off by default if possible.

For a non-expert user logging in to the default xdm the way it is now
says to that user, "NetBSD is a patchy, system that is not ready for
real-world use and perhaps I shouldn't use it for production or for my
desktop." It might even look broken to some if the console is there
printing every warning and message.

But my main issue is with the visuals or aesthetics of the xdm login
window. At least let the background of the login window be the same
colour as the background of whatever pixmap is chosen.

Regards,

Louis
