Here's an interesting result...

# egrep 'MACHINE|OBJECT|OPSYS|OS_VERSION' /var/db/pkg/perl-*/+BUILD_INFO
# perl
/usr/pkg/bin/perl: Exec format error. Wrong Architecture.
#

Looks like it might be my perl install...
