Hi,

I just noticed some uncomfortablly behavior of NetBSD/i386 2.0.1
during writing a lot of small files to disc.

Example: Checking out pkgsrc from CVS, writing to an UFSv2 (with
softdeps) formatted disklabel. That runs fine for about a minute. During
the checkout, the [ioflush] kernelthread comes up and consumes a large
amount of CPU time. The system freezes for some seconds (1..4). All
processes seem to be blocked (xmms, window-manager, X). After this
delay, the system goes on as normal.

I know, running ioflush is necessarily to flush buffers. But is it
normal that it freezes the system? Are there some options for tuning
this (caching?) ?

Kind regards
Matthias
