I had an interesting experience the other day with an ATA drive in a 
USB enclosure.  Oddly enough, it worked with NetBSD but *not* with 
Windows.  Quite the opposite of the usual situation!

The problem was that the drive was jumpered as "master"; in the 
enclosure, of course, there was no slave drive.  When I moved the 
jumper to "single drive", it worked fine on Windows.  (I haven't had a 
chance to test that variant yet on NetBSD, but I expect it to work.)
