Thanks, I'm also looking at bacula, but it may be overkill for this,
especially as it doesn't directly (AFAIK) deal neatly with
writing to optical media.

IF tar/pax/dar/dump etc could use /dev/cd0a as a output device, it'd be
pretty good.  I don't think they can though?
