gedit _appears_ to build and install correctly from pkgsrc, but
refuses to run with this error:

"Shared object "libxml2.so.8" not found"

The requisite version, 2.6.16, of libxml2 was built, but it produces:

 $ ls -l /usr/pkg/lib/libxml2.so*
lrwxr-xr-x  1 root  wheel       17 Nov 16 05:02
/usr/pkg/lib/libxml2.so -> libxml2.so.2.6.16
lrwxr-xr-x  1 root  wheel       17 Nov 16 05:02
/usr/pkg/lib/libxml2.so.2 -> libxml2.so.2.6.16
-rwxr-xr-x  1 root  wheel  1098971 Nov 16 05:02 /usr/pkg/lib/libxml2.so.2.6.16

A pkgsrc build of evolution bombs with the same "Shared object not found" error.

I guess I could handcrank those 2.6.16's into  8's, but that won't
really explain anything...

Best,

No no no, my fish's name is Eric, Eric the fish. He's an halibut.
I am not a looney! Why should I be attired with the epithet looney
merely because I have a pet halibut?
