Thanks for the hint.  I took the "update libpthreads" route and now my
laptop is completely hosed. ;-)  I lost kde and other stuff, and now
qt doesn't build, building kdelibs segfaults, and I also had a kernel
panic.  It seems -current isn't too stable at the moment.. :-I
