For what it's worth (sake of the list archives I suppose), I had success with
the following:

*) Canon BJC-240 (black ink cart.)
*) NetBSD/i386 1.6_STABLE (-rnetbsd-1-6 last week) on a:
	...generic HP workstation with parallel port in EPP mode:
	lpt0 at isa0 port 0x378-0x37b irq 7
*) CUPS 1.1.16 from pkgsrc/print/cups
	cups-1.1.16         Common UNIX Printing System

	The NetBSD print devices are /dev/lpt[X] and /dev/lpa[X]

	/usr/pkg/etc/cups/printers.conf:

	<DefaultPrinter Cannon>
	Info Cannon
	Location Cannon
	DeviceURI canon:/dev/lpt0
	State Idle
	Accepting Yes
	JobSheets none none
	QuotaPeriod 0
	PageLimit 0
	KLimit 0
	</Printer>

*) Ghostscript-ESP:
	ghostscript-esp-7.05.5 ESP/CUPS Postscript interpreter
*) gimp-print-cups 4.2.3 from pkgsrc
	gimp-print-cups-4.2.3 GIMP print plugin

...I guess the only question I have is as to configuring some of the printers
power-saver settings (traditionally done throught the vendor's driver). I'm
sure there's some utility somewhere that can do that.
