Nice fact to know about the carrier. I can commit the problem here with pppoe
and altq. The systems boots fine, and in a point where i think my pppoe
connection is brought up, the whole system hangs. It doesn't boot up to the
console login, services after pppoe will not be started, the TCP stack
accepts a connect on port 22, but sshd doesn't answer, ping works. So this
seems to be the same problem with pppoe, which also uses pppd.

No solution, but maybe this helps a bit in debugging. Maybe i check it out
further the next days, but currently it is freezed, as i don't want to kill
my production-state firewall with those experiments :)
