I am writing to introduce a new major NetBSD-related project that I am
embarking on. I am hoping you may either be interested in
participating or know of someone who is.

A group of us is now charged with establishing a research
infrastructure network for the entire state of New Mexico. The
computational component will include the hardware and software to
support teleconferencing statewide, a statewide distributed
filesystem, and a computational modeling facility aimed mostly at
biology, biomedicine, and bioinformatics. As a continuous user of
(and occassional contributer of patches and packages to) NetBSD since
its first public release almost a decade ago, I have come to
appreciate its high code quality. Thus, I would very much like to
base as much of this project as possible on NetBSD and the pkgsrc
system. I envision that one outcome of this project will be a pkgsrc
expanded in the direction of scientific applications, thereby making
NetBSD a natural choice for other scientific modeling facilities.

Currently, I am hiring one person to begin working on this project
(another will come later); see the following URL for the official
advertisement:

     http://www.nmsu.edu/~personel/postings/professional/104718511.html

The initial responsibility will be to construct the teleconferencing
system, but that will move quickly to general systems administration
for the statewide network, working with pkgsrc, developing and/or
integrating models, and otherwise supporting the scientists. I would
like to find someone with familiarity with NetBSD and pkgsrc.
Ideally, the person would have some scientific (preferably biology)
background and would be interested in garnering ongoing support for
the project as it grows. Thus, it is possible for the person taking
this position to take on a strong leadership role in setting the
standard for projects such as this.

I very much want this project to showcase NetBSD as an excellent
platform for building systems such as this. Thus, I am eager to find
the very best person, one who is committed to the general goals I see
represented within the NetBSD "family" and one who will take on the
leadership challenges inherent in this project.

Please direct any inquiries about this project or the position to me
at the address below.

Thank you very much for your attention and consideration.

Cheers,
Brook
