Subject: problems with X 4.1 xmessage?

I just installed the XFree86 4.1 tarball from arch/i386/XF86-4.1.0-1.5.1
on a 1.5.2 machine. If I type

	xmessage foo

I get a blank message box. The same happens with

	xmessage 'foo
	'

But if I type

	xmessage 'foo
	b'

I get a two-line display showing 'foo', but not the 'b'.

An older XFree86 4.1 on a -current machine (I don't remember where I
got it from -- possibly xfree86.org -- but I didn't compile it myself)
works just fine. It also works on 1.5.2, in (very) limited testing, so
I may just copy it over. Has anyone else seen this behavior?
