I've seen Type3s embedded when processing Lyx-generated LaTeX files.
Remove some of the special encodings commands at the top of the file
fixed things up to use Type1s.

(An even better solution to ps2pdf, if texing, it to use pdflatex,
and has the advantage of generating searchable documents)
