Even with 1.3 I'm surprised you have these problems. I have 1.3.2 and 1.3.3
machines with 9G disks (and eventually 9G partition) and don't have any
problems. And I'm sure I'm not the only one to use disks of 9G or more :)

Maybe a problem wth your drive ? Bad blocks ?
