My original problem with the kernel hanging with dual Adaptec 2940UW cards has disappeared since I installed the latest Compaq Rom upgrade, and NetBSD 1.3.3. I am not sure which item cured it but I have a feeling it is the Rom upgrade.

Could point me to the message ? I didn't see this about the
tl driver. I'm using 1.3.3 on a compaq as a research platform for
some network stuff, and I've never seen a lookup, even when the network
interface is flooded with UDP packets, both in 10 and 100 Mbs modes.
