The key mapping and escape sequences are different.
You have to put the right type in the TERM env variable, so that
programs can get the key mappings and escape sequences rigth (terminals are
defined in /usr/share/misc/termcap).
For an alpha console, I can't check rigth now but I think the type sould be
"sun".
