wow. I'm afraid you lost already on your first point.  www.netbsd.com is
sold out.  Fortunately, you can still ftp the release from ftp.netbsd.org.

I built a PII/300 with an ASUS board and an aha2940uw and a couple of
9GB baracudas... It serves about 15 PC's and 5 Macs using Samba and
netatalk.  It runs 1.3.2 and does NAT, IPF, and runs a small development
www server with server-side java under /emul/linux...  They use Amanda
for backing up to their DLT drive... 

They totally love the machine.  It was used to build the www site for a 
large european auto manufacturer.

I would recommend against the 3com cards though.  Go for an Intel Etherexpress
or something similar.

I tried a Compaq NIC that they had lying around in a box but it used a
different PHY than we supported so it didn't work.
