What version is your kernel?  There was a UVM related bugfix that should
be in 1.4.2 and -current.  Without it, X performance was about like the
regular console.

If you are running a kernel < 1.4.2_ALPHA you might try one of the
new snapshot kernels.  Otherwise it may be a new problem. :)
