Greetings NetBSD people, I come to you as the most diverse collection
of BSD-on-misc-hardware people on the face of the planet to ask for
recollection of rumours...
I have before me (well OK behind & to one side, picky picky) a sony NEWS
3400 box (Mips R3000), currently running NewsOS 4.1 in all its dubious
glory.
I have no install media, the disk is partitioned badly, and I am not
terribly fond of the system as it stands. So.
I consult archie, which illuminates me to the existence of a 4.4-Lite port
to the 3400. I consult ftp.sra.co.jp, at which the WIDE project appeared
to be hosted, but nothing concerning a 4.4 port to the NEWS. The readme
in the 4.4 distribution describes a work in progress, so I am naturally
curious as to its current state.
(ftp.sony.co.jp has nothing useful either 8( )
Being a graphical box, and desirous of running a better X at some stage,
I consult xc/config/cf/sony.cf, and see #define BuildServer NO
At this juncture, I am stymied. I can, I suppose, attempt to find newer
install media for NewsOS (ha!), and attempt to work with it. I guess I
can donate the machine to the Red Cross, who would probably airlift it
to Rwanda and use it as an emergency paperweight, or I can ask around
to see what other people are doing with these machines...
