Well I think they should be:

  * the fontconfig shipped with NetBSD's X installation is 2.1.0,
    whereas fontconfig is now up to 2.3.4;

  * there are more tweaking options available with newer fontconfig;

  * without this, web-pages specifying `lucida' instead of 'lucida
    sans' will get a crummy bitmap.

And I guess PREFER.fontconfig should be set to "pkgsrc" too.

It took me ages to figure it out!
