Thanks, I'll try installing some of pkgs from the server then.

The laptop had 3.1 installed just before 4.0 was available so 4.0 
went on as an update. As that process went very smoothly, without 
breaking what little I had setup, I'll probably risk update of 3.1 on 
the desktop to give a faster build system.
