I have the same issue with rc6 and with the nightly snapshot from August 
12th.  Looks like some changes were made to the auth signalling recently 
(at least since rc2, which is what I have running at present) that may 
be responsible.

No solution yet, but I posted the same issue on the dovecot mailing 
list, so hopefully Timo will have a clue and a solution. :-)
