Thanks Jeremy, I checked out Toshiba's web site for
mannuals (since this laptop is quite old and I got it
from somebody without the OS, though this has a Win98
licence sticker stuck on it). The user manual for this
model says that there is definitely a setting in BIOS
(Stretch LCD display) but this can only be setup
through win98 display properties option, which in turn
povides this option if I am using the proper official
driver for the display card.
The problem is I can't go into the BIOS setting, there
is no option for that while system boots up.
I have configured X and that works fine.
But one point which I am wondering upon is that -
(1.) if this 'stretched display' is a BIOS property
then why is it not enabled by default?
and
(2.) How does Knoppix /SUSE live CDs display full
screen texts, immediately after booting system (right
from the 'boot: ' prompt)?
Cheers.
