I am able to record audio satisfactorily by modifying values with mixerctl =
first:

inputs.mic.mute=3Don to off
inputs.mic.preamp=3Doff to on

These values are set by default, using preamp=3Don you will not have to put=
 the microphone in your mouth.
Then you can use a program like audacity or xwave.
