i am not using a smart ups, but a backups which
does seem to work but not properly. using the
test tool, it is detected when the cable (serial)
is plugged and removed. but once the ups daemon
is launched this doesn't work anymore.

if i remove the serial cable nothing wrong is
detected. if i remove the power plug and the
ups goes on battery nothing is detected either
while it should.

in other words, if power goes down, the netbsd
never seens the ups is running on battery and
it keeps running until batteries go dead and
the machine will not shutdown properly.

i used a "local" flag and used ttyflags -a
too and configured it using proper type of
ups and cable (using smart doesn't work,
as i'm using a dumb ups model that doesn't
report the voltage or things alike).

what is strange is i am able to pass through
all tests and removal of serial cable is
detected properly but once i launch the
daemon itself, that doesn't work anymore
with the very same config :/

if i remove the cable and check for ups
status, it answers as if the cable was
still plugged. wtf ?
