   Hello Radhika,

RS> I found an old HP Jornada model 720, running windows

It looks as though Herb Peyerl has...

...that's from the NetBSD in Action page, at...

RS> It only has a dial up modem adapter and a serial port.

If I understand correctly it also has a PC-Card slot where
you could plug in a network card or a GPRS modem like the
   one in the first picture.

Something like the 720 should suit my mobile communications
/computing needs quite well because of the 80 column screen,
keypad, PC-Card slot and the ability to run SSH. Let us know
   how you get on!

I think that the 720 is pretty nice. I use one at home quite often hooked
up via 802.11b running X, sometimes with a serial mouse and moused,
sometimes with the touchscreen potiner. Haven't had a lot of time lately
to mess around with things, but you may the following handy:

There are a number of [unofficial compiles] binary packages there, my
unofficial compile of X11R6, my kernel, and a port of the Doom and Quake
engines. I haven't been able to update to a newer kernel or userland in a
while so I can't say how this stuff will work in a later generation
system.
