Subject: evolution and user limits

I had evolution from pkgsrc running nicely with an imap account,
but when I added a pop account I began to get "cannot create lock
in ... too many open files."

I note in the pkgsrc DESCR:

"Make sure you increase user and kernel limits for open files and
processes if you run into trouble!"

I don't have a login.conf file. If I make one, what would be a
reasonable value for:?

openfiles number Maximum number of open file
                                        descriptors per process.

Would this file look something like this:?

default:\
       :openfiles=[nnnnn]:

Are there any other things I ought to tweak if I run evolution?

Best,
