Hi Gary:

 Unforunately I don't know. I had a USB modem (/dev/ttyU0) working great with NetBSD 1.6.2 but I gave that external modem away to my sister, when I geve her my FreeBSD desktop computer. I susbequently bought a Hawking PN612 PCMCIA modem but that did not work in NetBSD 1.6.2. So I really have not had the oportunity to use userland ppp in NetBSD lately.
