Could you try booting from floppies made from

ftp://releng.netbsd.org/pub/NetBSD-daily/netbsd-2-0/200405260000/i386/installation/floppy/boot1.fs
ftp://releng.netbsd.org/pub/NetBSD-daily/netbsd-2-0/200405260000/i386/installation/floppy/boot2.fs

?   /kern/msgbuf   contains the boot messages..
