To confirm what I thought I had done earlier:

I took the 1.6.2 kernel and replaced it with a current-20040103 kernel (1=
6ZG)
and (kept the 1.6.2 userland) ran xf86cfg (4.3.0) and it sees
the entire screen immediately!

The xf86cfg (4.4.0) sees the reduced size screen.

So, at least with 4.3.0, whether or not xf86cfg works correctly for me
depends on something in the two different kernels.  These are both GENERI=
C.

Any thoughts?

Is 1.6ZG from 20040103 newer than 1.6.2 from March 2004?
