It might be easier for you to use mbrlabel.  It helped me a great deal.  Use 
it with only the device to get a glimpse at what it would use on the 
disklabel.  Use it with -wr options to write the in-core copy of the disk 
label, and write the on-disk copy of the disk label, respectively.

It is documented in the man pages.  I found it from a "SEE ALSO" on the 
disklabel man page when I was trying to mount my FAT partition from NetBSD.
