If you're looking for a quick fix and need a hi-res console, go for XFree86.
If you dislike GUI, you can use no windowmanager - or some "evil"
windowmanagers like ion, ratpoison or evilwm.

The truth is, that currently no BSD variant will give you a console with
such abilities as the Linux framebuffer.
