If the source tree in which you started the 'cvs update -dP' command
contained the sources from a branch, then that branch will be updated.
If there were no sources or the sources were not on a branch, then you
got head.

Take a look at CVS/Entries -- if there are entries in there that end in=20

//Tnetbsd-1-6

or similar, then you got the 1.6 branch.
