Oh, I should also add/ask:

Is there a deliberate rationale for disabling if/of filtering when
lpd is directed to use a remote printer? Is it a bug? Or did someone
just think, "Well, they're using a remote printer which *probably* has
appropriate filters already, so local filters are probably a mistake,
and we can (silently) ignore them"?

This is the second time, I think, that I've wanted to use local filters
in combination with a network printer. (Another occasion, I believe,
was when I wanted to print to a PostScript-native printer from my laptop,
but wanted to have some automated processing everytime. I think that I
wanted to twiddle the margins or something, but it's been a year or so.)

This seems like a desirable feature, if not always needed. I can't
think of any reason to *deliberately* kill if/of handling just because
rm/rp capabilities are defined.

Another send-pr? Or is there a good reason? (And if it's deliberate,
am I blind or is it not documented in printcap(5)?)
