Oh, yeah, the Linksys and DLink 802.11b cards I've played with have 
both got detachable antennas.  It is an SMA connector, I believe:

(I don't know anything about this vendor, I'm not recommending them,
I'm just pointing out that there are pre-assembled antennas for 'em.)
One cool think about this is that you can use the Host AP driver with
the PRISM2 cards;  it doesn't work for Lucent cards (which the
DWL-660 probably is).

This is just a suggestion;  I think that getting a PCMCIA adaptor
is fine way to do it, too.
