I have been having problems with vmware too, I saw awhile back
that someone posted the same thing that I was getting but I dont think
there was any responce, but im not sure. after loading vmmon and
trying to run vmware I get this error message:
VMware Workstation Error:
Version mismatch with vmmon module: expecting 30.0, got 10.0.
You have an incorrect version of the `vmmon' kernel module.
Try reinstalling VMware Workstation.

I really have no clue and would really like to use vmware on this netbsd box
