Subject: inetd start

If I "cd /etc/rc.d; inetd start" on my 1.6 system, I get this:

$ tail -1 /var/log/messages
Jun 7 19:11:16 oak inetd[16256]: start: No such file or directory

I tried to debug it with "sh -x", but didn't get very far. I can't find
any similar complaint in the archives, but it's repeatable on my system.
Am I missing something obvious?

Thanks.
