since early 1.6 ;-)
i experienced the same problem using the ftp install, cdrom installation
always proceeded ok...

i was advised to select "No" when sysinst asks "Do you want to see the names
of the files as the distribution sets are being unpacked?" i haven't tried
this yet, but it could work...
